“BibPop” is our tool to communicate with our users about new games available in the library, events for youths hosted by the library – as well as news regarding our collection of popular culture (comics, books about popular culture, movies and popular music etc). The former name of this blog was “Spillblogg” (“Game blog”) due to its former focus on gaming only.

About our gaming facilities: We have eight gaming stations in the library. Check out our list of Xbox games and Playstation games. The stations are located at all three floors, two at the ground floor (children’s books), four at the first floor (the main public library) and two at the second floor (factual prose and College library). The games are loaned at the library and are also used at the library. This means the games cannot be taken home. Please ask our staff for more information when you visit us.

For technical and copyright reasons the focus is on console gaming, mostly Xbox 360s, but recently we have acquired two Playstation 3 machines as well. PC games for youngsters is available for loan in the children’s department. Drammensbiblioteket is also in possession of two Playstation 2 machines, typically used for games like “Singstar” and “Buzz” as well as a Nintento Wii and 3 Nintendo DS consoles.

Nintento Wii, DS and PS2 machines are not located in the library as they require extensions that are difficult to save from theft. Thus they are used together with a librarian on special gaming nights as well as on canvas every Wednesday between 3pm and 5pm.

Background: Drammensbiblioteket is a coalition of three separate library organisations working together. The three partners are the county library, the municipal library and the university college library.

Drammensbiblioteket has been among the forgoers in Norway when it comes to electronic gaming in a public library. We have chosen to offer electronic games for several reasons. Predominantly we wish to attract young users who do not normally visit the library and because we believe that electronic gaming has a value of its own. Although everyone can use our gaming facilities, the user group is mostly children and youngsters from the ages between three and fifteen.
